Oak Ridge NC Real Estate
For many years Oak Ridge, North Carolina was a small, rural farming community built around the Oak Ridge Military Academy in the Northwest corner of Guilford County. Although the school was built in 1852, the town of Oak Ridge was not incorporated until 1998. After that the town experienced tremendous growth. Numerous upper middle class neighborhoods were developed and now Oak Ridge is a sought after area in which to live and raise a family.
Oak Ridge Military Academy is a private coed college preparatory boarding school. It is the third oldest military school in the Nation still in operation. It is also the official military school of North Carolina recognized by the State legislature and includes grades 6-12.
The Oak Ridge Easter Horse Show has been an annual event since 1945. It is held to raise funds for community projects and is a great event for family fun. Oak Ridge also has an 80 acre Town Park off of Linville Road which was built in 2007. Taking a tour of Oak Ridge always includes the Old Mill of Guilford which dates back to the late 18th century. This working mill is one of the oldest in the United States that is still operating commercially. Locals still frequent it to purchase corn meal, flour, and natural stone ground grits.
Oak Ridge is located in Northwest Guilford County and is a prosperous suburb of Greensboro. Once was mostly farm land is now filled with upper class housing developements and continues to grow with dining and retail stores being added.
